Art at Hardwick

Art and Design

Art, craft and design embody some of the highest forms of human creativity. A high-quality art and design education should engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. DFES

At Hardwick Primary School Art is an integral part of our thematic approach to teaching where there is an emphasis on the skills taught. We believe that art plays an integral part in children's physical, cultural, social and aesthetic development. Children across school enjoy using a variety of tools and techniques including ICT. This gives them the opportunity to develop understanding of the process involved in producing a piece of art. Our visits to places of interest, including the Art Gallery, as well as working with visiting arts people, provide ideas to enrich this area of the children's work.

In the early years, children are introduced to a range of art materials and tools, such as a range of paints, dough, chalks, pastels, sponges, rollers and cutting tools. They are encouraged to be spontaneously creative, using their own experiences and ideas. This continues and is developed throughout their time at Hardwick.
